MIO Coalition

Entertaining tends to pick up in the month of May. Whether it’s graduation parties, showers, Mother’s Day or backyard gatherings, the weekends can be packed.

Too much fun with family and friends is a good problem to have, but it can be made easier when you have a few go-to recipes.

The Made in Oklahoma Coalition has two new, fun recipes this month. These are recipes you’ll love to have this month whether you’re entertaining at home or need to bring a dish to someone’s house.

Bread making can be intimidating, but not with our Honey Beer Bread. This simple recipe has just a few ingredients, including Stonecloud IPA, Roark Acres Honey and Hiland Butter. Of course it all starts with a pantry staple, Shawnee Mills All-Purpose Flour.

You don’t have to wait for this bread to rise. The bread helps the process, giving a nice rise to this loaf. If you’ve never made bread, try this starter recipe and you’ll see how easy it can be. Serve it with additional MIO honey and butter. This is also a nice recipe to make and give as a gift to friends or neighbors. Tuck it in a basket with a bottle of Roark Acres Honey.

For Mother’s Day or other May celebrations, keep our Berry Jam Swiss Roll in mind. This is a pretty cake with an old-fashioned sensibility and sweet charm. Jelly roll cakes may seem like a throwback, but what’s old is new again with this cake. It’s nice looking on a platter sprinkled with powdered sugar and even more impressive once sliced.

Each slice has a delicate swirl of sweetened whipped cream and Southern Roots Sisters Triple Berry Jam. If it’s your first time making a Swiss roll, prepare to be impressed with how great it will look. This showstopper would be nice for a spring brunch, along with a spread of other great Made in Oklahoma recipes.

Whatever you’re celebrating this month, remember MIO. Look for Made in Oklahoma ingredients wherever you shop. It’s good for you and good for Oklahoma!
